SEO reports end at the click. Someone found you, visited a page, left. For a local business, that is half the story. Did they call, book, scan a QR on a follow-up leaflet, or disappear?

Tracking what happens after the click is where marketing gets honest. Search reports stop at the visit; local businesses need calls, bookings, and walk-ins.

What Search Console cannot tell you

Rankings, impressions, clicks, and average position help tune pages. They do not show phone calls from mobile, form fills without thank-you page tracking, or walk-ins that mention Google. Print campaigns tied to generic homepage URLs look invisible in search reports entirely.

You need event tracking beyond the SERP.

Build a simple after-click trail

Calls: click-to-call on mobile with your usual business number on landing pages used in campaigns.

Forms: thank-you page or CRM entry as a conversion event in analytics.

QR from print: unique tracked links per batch so scans are separate from organic traffic.

Ask at intake: one field or verbal question: "How did you hear about us?"

None of this requires enterprise software on day one.

Match landing pages to intent

Generic homepage clicks from local queries bounce fast. A short page with price range, service area map, proof photos, and one button beats a five-page site tour.

SEO brings the visit. The page earns the action.

Compare channels on outcomes

Rank position moved up three spots. Print batch B got 42 scans and six calls. Which changed revenue? Measure weekly at the job level, not only in Search Console.

Wire one conversion event this week: thank-you page view, call click, or form submit. SEO clicks become useful the moment something after the click is counted.

Do the same for print: one landing page per offer, one tracked QR, one column in your sheet for scans. Parity keeps channels comparable in monthly reviews.
